We planned a surprise party for our parents’ thirty-fifth wedding anniversary. The ballroom was decorated to perfection, filled with family and friends. As the arrival time approached, my siblings and I had only one concern: would Mom and Dad be late? Growing up, our family was always behind schedule. Mom blamed Dad, and Dad blamed Mom.
Vibrating cell phones alerted us to our parent’s pending arrival. Silence descended as everyone got in place and waited. Minutes ticked by as we continued to wait. Finally, we cracked open the door and peeked out. Near the elevator, stood our parents, tardy for their own party. We smiled as Dad bent down to help Mom with a stubborn buckle on her shoe.
After thirty-five years, they were late once again. Late but together.

Beautiful story! “Late but together.” – that’s so sweet. Reminds me of how when I was just married (long ago) I used to feel embarrassed at how my husband and I would be always the first ones to reach any party venue. He would tell me to hurry up hurry up hurry up…was always very punctual. Still is and makes me shed off my laziness..
