FFfAW: Simplicity

It was the simple, most mundane things that gave her the greatest fright.  The unexpected chirp of the house phone.  No one called the landline anymore, except telemarketers and political candidates.  The ding-dong of the doorbell. New to the area, she had no family or friends to pay her a visit.  She politely declined the solicitation for lawn care.  Thankfully, today was quiet.   No news was good news.

The buzzing of her cell phone paralyzed her temporarily.  This was another seemingly innocuous occurrence with the potential to turn her world upside down.  Briefly closing her eyes and saying a quick prayer, Gayle reached for her device.  Fingers shaking, she swiped the screen and opened the text message from her sister-in-law:

Have you seen this?  Posted today on CNN.com 🙂

Gayle breathed a sigh of relief.  It was a picture of her husband Jack, alive and well.
