Stroke of Midnight: The Best Laid Plans

In response to The Daily Post prompt Stroke of Midnight.

Our plans were all set.  An early dinner, followed by a quick trip to secure libations for the evening: spirits for the adults and sparkling grape juice for the children.  We returned home around 9:30, anxiously awaiting the arrival of 2016.

Our quiet evening was disturbed by the sound of the ringing phone.  At 12:02 am!  Yep, my family and I slept through the arrival of the New Year!

After a few phone calls and a belated toast, I reflected on our lackluster New Year’s Eve celebration.  There was no fanfare, noisemakers or ten second countdown.  Only a quiet evening at home with my husband and children:  Safe.  Healthy.  Together.

And I wouldn’t change a thing.
