Flash Fiction: Light Over Darkness

Beauty surrounded her. Vibrant greens, bold pinks, and majestic purples. The garden also lived inside, with lovely arrangements adorning the entry way and dining hall, projecting a hint of civility in the staid interior.

Abigail loved the garden, feeling light and free among the delicate beauty of the flora. She preferred the out of doors where she could create unfettered. The ambient light chased away the darkness that lay dormant inside. It constantly stalked her, waiting for the perfect moment to attack, dragging her into the abyss.

She clung desperately to the color and the light.  As long as she had them, the darkness could not win, the amassed blue pills would remain unnecessary.

This is in response to the 32nd Challenge for Flash Fiction for Aspiring Writers.  The challenge is to write a short story of 100 – 125 words in response to the prompt photo.  This week’s photo is courtesy of Graham Lawrence.

My contribution is 118 words.  I hope you enjoy!

  1. Even just a slight ray of light can keep the shadows away. She must keep painting and cling to the light in her heart😊
